A powerflush is a process designed to remove sludge and gunge built up in your boiler, pipes and radiators within your central heating system. The power flushing unit pumps water through your system at high speed to dislodge build ups of sludge, rust and other debris resting with it.
This cleaning process helps to improve the efficiency of your system and the heat from your radiators and as well as prolonging the life of your boiler.
• A powerful pump is connected to your heating system and is used to remove dirty water and sludge build up
• Chemicals are usually added to help wash through the system and remove more stubborn deposits which could not otherwise be shifted
• The system is then washed through again to clear out the chemicals and any further deposits which have been dislodged
• A dose of ‘inhibitor’ fluid is added which helps to prevent further corrosion and build up of sludge
This will normally be a full day process.
• Warm radiators instead of cold ones which only have a hot strip at the top
• Efficient system using less energy to heat your home
• Less chance of failing pumps and radiator valves requiring costly replacement
• Less chance of radiators corroding and starting to leak over carpets
One or more of these symptoms could indicate your heating system could benefit;
• Cold radiators with warm spots
• Black sludgy water in the system causing components to fail
• A noticeable deterioration in the performance of your heating
• An overflowing header tank in your loft
Not always – but we can advise if you are having issues. If you have a broken part in the system then power flushing will not fix it. Power flushing can improve your system efficiency but it cannot mend parts which have failed due to lack of maintenance.
Power flushing works best when carried out regularly from new, and the system can be greatly helped by the additional of a ‘system filter’. If you have an older boiler and system (say 15 years or more) then power flushing may not work for you. It is likely that it will be more cost effective to look at replacing your boiler, radiators and possibly some of the pipework than trying to improve a failing system.
